This speakeasy in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, plays on the fact that there used to be a brothel at this address.
The owners used the history of this place to create a speakeasy. When you enter there is a winding bar crossing the main room, mixing modern furniture, neon signs with a prohibition touch.
But head towards the small bedroom at the back where there is a four-poster bed, fringed lamps, a few armchairs and a dim red light.
The cocktails here are excellent. We tested the Dirty Old Man (mezcal, chilli-infused Aperol and pineapple juice), George Washington’s Night Out (gin, kiwi, lemon and honey).
PLAN B: If you’re a little hungry, they serve oysters and planchettes.
